About Me, Zayra Vázquez
I’m an educator originally from Puerto Rico, now living in Italy. Growing up on the enchanting island of Puerto Rico, I was surrounded by the rhythm of its vibrant culture, the warmth of its people, and the endless beauty of the Caribbean Sea. That sea has always been my anchor, a constant source of inspiration and peace, and I carry it with me wherever I go.
My favorite book is The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry; its themes of love, friendship, and seeing with the heart deeply resonate with me. Writing my first book was a way to share a story I felt was worth telling.
Living in Italy has given me a new perspective on immigration and the immense sacrifices people make when they leave behind everything they know—their homes, their roots, and often their loved ones—in search of a better life. Some journeys are filled with hope and opportunity, while others are marked by unimaginable hardships, and not all end in safety.
Through my story, I hope to inspire empathy and understanding for those who embark on these brave voyages. May we all strive to welcome others with kindness, honor the resilience of the human spirit, and remember that even in the face of great challenges, hope can light the way forward.
